Posted on September 15th, 2010 No Comments

Getting a reasonable rate on auto insurance is very important especially during times of economic slow down. The most effective thing that a person can do when trying to get a great deal on car insurance, is to have a clean driving record.

A recent report shows that America has been involved in less wrecks now than they have been with a 5 percent decrease in the accident rate between 2008 and 2009. These numbers not only mean that the roads are safer, but also that consumers can save money on their auto insurance.

One at-fault accident on a person’s record can potentially affect the person’s record for years, keeping a safe record will be very helpful when receiving insurance and for keeping it low.

Flaws found in Pa. lawmakers plan to fine uninsured drivers

Posted on September 1st, 2010 No Comments

The state of Pennsylvania is struggling to stick to their budget for the fiscal year, and they are facing a $1.1 million fund deficit.

Because of this issue, the Governor of Pennsylvania has been searching for ideas to make up for the gap. The latest idea that he has proposed would be to fine people that are operating an motor vehicle without a car insurance.

His idea is much stricter than having law enforcement officials write tickets to people when they are involved in a traffic stop. The Governor wants to use traffic cameras to take pictures of the car’s license plate and cross-reference them to see if the car has an insurance policy on it.

Issues that arise in this plan are that all companies would have to keep up with the current information on each person’s plan which can change easily. Also, people use different variations of their name when signing up for insurance plans and the technology is not available to double check this.

The proposal states that the cameras will scan each vehicle as it passed underneath the light and then look and see if that vehicle has valid insurance.

The problem that arose was that lawmakers could not find a company that could verify every different type of car insurance, but lawmakers are hoping that they will return to this bill next year. As of now, approximately 20 percent of the residents of Oklahoma are driving without insurance.

Posted on July 29th, 2010 No Comments

The number of the uninsured drivers has declined in Texas after the launch of an auto insurance verification program nearly two years ago, according to the Texas Department of Insurance reports.

A database that was created after the launch of the program in 2008 showed that nearly 25 percent of registered vehicles in Texas could not be matched to an insurance policy. In 2010, the number of vehicles without insurance was down to 21 percent.

The program, TexasSure, can also find the registered vehicles that are not insured. The company can now contact the people that appear to be not insured by mailing them letters. This will begin in mid-June 2010. First time offenders may receive a fine of up to $350.
